Product description

Fixit 222

Water vapour permeable, high performance insulating plaster. Excellent thermal insulation achieved with very thin layers. Fixit 222 is the ideal plaster for indoor and outdoor thermal renovation work and offers high aesthetic quality.

The special aerogel material, developed in cooperation with Empa, reduces the thermal conductivity coefficient λto just 0,028 W/(mK). In addition, as a limestone-based mortar it is extremely economic.

Material base

  • Binding agents: hydraulic lime NHL 5, calcium hydroxide, white cement
  • Aggregates: Aerogel granules, light mineral aggregate
  • Additives: water retaining agent, air-entraining agent, hydrophobic agent

Residential Home Wyssestein, Solothurn

The Fixit renovation technique, including the use of a 30mm thick plaster layer of Fixit 222 Insulating Plaster, created a novel room climate based on its water-vapour permeability. The combined layers of the plaster system absorb excess humidity from the air and return it in a controlled way to the room, preventing the development of mildew

The late Gothic building presumably served as a chaplaincy for the foundation of the Bullingerpfründe in 1460 and became a helper's house after its re-catholicisation in 1531. The approximately 500-year-old property, which is now a historic monument, has been renovated time and again over the course of its use, most recently 60 years ago completely and in 1990 with a gentle interior and exterior renovation.

Since the historic building is covered by a preservation order, it was not possible to use mineral-wool insulation on its outdoor surfaces. The owners wished to retain the original character of the building, for which reason they decided that Fixit 222 High Performance Insulating Render should be used, also because the walls were bowed and not vertical. Internal renovation was carried out with a layer thickness of 30 – 80 mm of Fixit 222 Aerogel flexible high performance insulating plaster over quarry stone walls.

Some 2'800 m² of Fixit 222 Aerogel High Performance Thermally Insulating Plaster and 600 m² AeroCalce non-woven fabric matting were applied, the former directly onto the existing plaster substrate. This technique was economic despite the higher material outlay because it allowed the entire renovation to be completed in one step rather than two, as initially envisaged. On completion the façades appear practically unchanged, whilst the energy consumption has been halved.
